Day 13
We've been hiking, horseback riding, and piranha fishing in the remote area of the Pantanal Region in Western Brazil. The Pantanal is the largest area of wetlands in the world, and a real gem because it is also the most dense flora and fauna ecosystem in the world, with a rich collection of aquatic plants. The land is somewhat of an enormous basin-shaped region that allows the water to collect and slowly drain through one main channel - most impressive right now during the rainy season. Like the rain forest, this unique ecosystem is vital to the neotropic, and it is at risk from aggressive development.
